Finished base, currently stumped...
|
Any tips/troubleshooting for picking up stitches on the flat-knit version of the bottom? I have picked up 150 stitches, but now I am trying to knit them, and some of them are too tight to get back on my needle from the cable. I think I must be doing something wrong...
Thanks!! |

Yeah when I went to knit those stitches they were a bit on the tight side.. it all loosened up a bit after a few rounds tho..now i'm almost ready to do the handles.. takin a break.

It's all good... | ||

Well, I made it through one round on my picked-up stitches. Everything's going to be allllll right....
Unfortunately I have used all of my CC on the base so there's nothing more I can do until I go to my LYS tomorrow... |

Ok.. so I've got most of the FMB done... you won't believe the fookering I had to do on the handles!!
When doing the BO25, K25 part.. I didn't count the stitch already on the needle so I wound up with one handle-set of stitches with only 22 on it.. and the rest had/have 26 Worry not, I've had to add some stitches to the 22 and will be taking away some on the 26... I was like WTH??!! Live and learn! Here's a pic! img25.photobucket.com/alb...ltting.jpg |

Re: mixing LPW and Kureyon, & English/Continental
|
I haven't stopped by the list in several days and so I didn't see your post until now... with a bottom done in the Kureyon and almost 10" up the sides in the LP. We'll just have to see how it goes!
We're driving out of town on Saturday, and I would LOVE to have this bag done and felted and dry by then, but I think the only way that would happen would be if I stayed up and knit ALL NIGHT LONG! Just an interesting sidenote: I've always knit English (right hand holds the working yarn, right hand "throws" or "levers.") I started trying Continental (left hand carry, right hand "scoop" or "pick" the yarn through the loop.) At first it felt AWFUL and weird, but I've spent my knitting time the past few days doing a few rows this way and a few rows that. I'm thrilled to say that it hasn't affected my gauge (!) or the evenness of my stitches. I may become an AC-DC knitter!! |

french market in progress

i used cascade 220 and used all of a raspberry for the base and the 7 or so rows up the side...but chose not to run off and buy another skein to do the tops of the handles...(there in a dark pine color)
i am thinking about going over to the frame shop and having a scrap of matting cut for the bottom... any ideas...does anyone have a picture of their french market in action and not just sitting down? |

How much cascade 220 did your bag require?
|
Hi, everyone! I have so enjoyed having the safety net of this board and the website while working on this project. I would have been too intimidated to try it without you guys!
I'm up to the handles on my 2nd bag (greens in cascade 220), but I'm wondering if I've made the bag tall enough. My first was way too short. So, the question is, do I go buy another hank of cascade 220 and keep on knitting or hope that I have enough to finish the handles at the height it is. Current bag is approx 12" tall so far. Also, what size needles is everyone using? Thanks!! Amy |

Re: How much cascade 220 did your bag require?

Here are some stats on my bag that may help...
I knit on size 8 needles because I USUALLY knit tight. This time, though, my gauge was way off, and the bottom of my bag was 50 inches in circumference instead of 44 inches. SO...to compensate, I added a lot to the height...my notes say 18 inches. My postfelting height (if you pull the bag out to its pre-felting shape and measure from the center of the bottom) is 12 inches. Sitting on the tabletop, if you measure from the bottom to the top of the body, it's seven inches. That's probably WAY more info that you need...but maybe that helps! Let us know what you decide to do |

This is exactly the kind of information I'm looking for. Thank you!!
I'm afraid that I'm using needles that are way too big (10 1/2s). I guess I chose those because for my first FMB, the LYS lady told me to use them. When I changed yarn, I just stuck with the same needles. |

I don't know if the needle size will matter too much...but I wonder why you were told to go up so many needle sizes??? I've heard if you knit on needles that are too small, the felting process might not work as well. But...since this pattern called for 7s...and was designed specifically for felting...hmmm...
I would say you can just add several inches to the top of your bag and keep going, since you're almost done! I forgot to mention I also added an extra 8 rows to each of my handles to make them a little longer. Good luck...be sure to post photos! |

cascade 220 and other felting issues
|
i traditionally use 220 on my felting projects and traditionally a size 9 to 11 needle.
i used on skein for the base (i knit for 100 rows...or 50 ridges) and picked up from there. then used the next skein to do my sides and used the 3rd for the handles. for a total of 3 skeins. |

I don't think that the 10 1/2 needles will give disappointing results. Expect more shrinkage and a slightly denser /stiffer bag after felting.

I'm using 10's, as my 10-1/2's were engaged in (yet another) unfinished project...
I'm glad to here that bigger needles should result in a STIFFER bag after felting, vs, a floppier one. Sounds like I made the right choice. I've never made a felted project with cascade on just the normal #7's. Sounds like most everyone is using up more yarn yardage than what's described in the pattern, too, regardless of needle size. I made the bottom from cascade 220, and am working on the MC sides using a big 385 yd skein of Charisma aran space dyed wool I bought from Webs. I hope it will be enough. I have a second one, (I bought a total of 6 in 3 different colorways, but that will be our secret!) but I would like to save it for a second project. |

my first felting disaster

i am not sure...but this has to be the worst felting project in recorded history! (or my recorded history)...not sure what i did and not real interested in disecting it...just send it to the landfill and move on to my next felting project!

Re: French Market | ||
|
Just found this pattern a few days ago via the Ample-Knitters group. Someone was knitting it and posted a link. And all I've thought about since then was this bag!! I love it.
Just tonight in digging in my stash I found two matching skeins of Kureyon and four skeins of Jo Sharp, two in a beautiful garden green and two in a plum color both of which match the colorways in the Kureyon. So I'd like to use all of these. My question is, have any of you felted these two yarns (Jo Sharp and Kureyon) in the same project and did they felt fairly evenly? I know. I could knit a test swatch and felt it, but I'd much rather have someone on this list say yes, it will work, and just start knitting!! Thanks, Sissy |

Sis,
I've felted Kureyon with Cascade and it worked fine. Never tried Jo Sharp. |

Booga Bag | ||
|
LaBean, I just made the Booga Bag out of Kureyon. It came out oh-so-lovely and very soft. Surprising, because I found the yarn to be rather coarse.
Is the gauge working out all right for you? I got a few inches up the bag body and realized that the bag was the size I expected it to be AFTER felting, and that at my current rate, I would probably not need the 3rd skein. So I frogged it and reknit with a 20% stitch increase. I'm very curious if anyone else had this problem. BTW, I made a second Booga out of Lamb's Pride. Stiffer and not as soft. |
